My Life In LARP

What is LARP? LARP is Live Action Role Play. It is when nerds want to tack their Dungeon and Dragons game to the next leave. It is when kids with too much imagination grow up but still need a creative outlet. It is where creative people come together and create a world nothing like our own and want to share it with people. It is for anyone looking for an escape from the boring or too small life. In LARP you design your character, the person you will play, act, be for however long the game is. Depending on their game you can play a whole different race. In a fantasy setting you can play a Human, Dwarf, Habit, Ogre, Elf, Werecat I’ve even been a part of some games where you could play a half-human half unicorn! Think of Lord Of The Rings and Skyrim to get the feel of it.

It’s not all fantasy bast though that is the biggest genre, there are also steampunk-themed, Post Apocalyptic themed and sci-fi, you just have to find the fit for you. I generally lean towards fantasy but I’m not opposed to trying other things out and would welcome the opportunity.

Most of my games are usually play an Elf of some kind. Right now I have been playing a Half-Elf named Farya Harthwind. She is half high Elf and half Human. Maybe one day I’ll make a post going into her backstory and who she is. Not only will you need a character with a backstory that fits into the game but you also need period appropriate clothes. I have made many outfits for my characters. For Farya I have probably never worn the exact same outfit twice. I always make some new garments for her. Finally, I think I found something that really works for the colder weather but that will be another post. The biggest advice I can give a new player is before you go to the game read the role book!! Go to the website and read the role book then, find out if they have a Facebook page and introduce yourself.
